Patient Privacy & Confidentiality
Protecting information gathered in association with the care of the patient is a core value in health care. Respecting patient privacy in other forms is also fundamental, as an expression of respect for patient autonomy and a prerequisite for trust. Dr Rajput, all her staff working in her clinics, both doctors and paramedics and paramedical staff at facilities where she holds her Out Patient Department (OPD) all abide by the The Medical Council of India’s Code of Ethics regulations.
Patient privacy encompasses several aspects, including personal space (physical privacy), personal data (informational privacy), personal choices including cultural and religious affiliations (decisional privacy), and personal relationships with family members and other intimates (associational privacy).
Physical privacy of patients are maintained in all clinics of Dr Rajput, whether they are the ones owned by her or in shared facilities where she has her out patient departments (OPD). Only the patient and the doctor or paramedical staff of the doctor or ones provided by the medical facility, who are also bound by patient privacy & confidentiality regulations, can be present at the time patient consultations are going on. No one else without the patient’s consent is allowed in the doctor’s consulting space.
The Medical Council of India’s Code of Ethics Regulations (5) protects patient confidentiality by stating that the physician “shall not disclose the secrets of a patient that have been learnt in the exercise of his/her profession except in a court of law under orders of the Presiding Judge; in circumstances where there is a serious and identified risk to a specific person and/or community; or in case of notifiable diseases.”
In accordance to this law, your medical, personal and lifestyle information, medical reports, photos or videos regarding your medical condition would be kept on record within Dr Rajput’s clinic or on digital media securely, under individual case record files. Only Dr Rajput, any other doctor who is assigned to your treatment or a paramedical staff, who are all bound by the same privacy and confidentiality code of conduct as Dr Rajput, have access to these files. Your personal information is protected under the Ethics of Privacy and confidentiality of Medical records. This information could only be used in research as a part of research publications and within the medical fraternity as case studies without divulging your identity.
As a patient, any information you share with the doctor during your consultation or otherwise, pertaining to your health or lifestyle will not be shared with anyone else, without written consent from you. The exclusions to this would be for children below the age of 18, adults with developmental disabilities and a judge’s order in court.
Joint consultations happen with mutual consent of partners, friends or family members. For children, under the age of 18, or for adults with developmental disabilities, an accompanying registered care, family member or legal guardian needs to be present during the consultation.
